More about this coffee from Kenya
This specialty coffee comes from the Kamavindi estate, founded in 1958 by John Njiru Mbature. Today, several decades later, his legacy lives on through the commitment and togetherness of his family. His children have proudly taken over the farm, working with the conviction that they are honouring what would have brought their parents joy: farming with love, dedication and respect for the land.
During the British colonial period in Kenya, laws restricted native Kenyans to growing a maximum of 100 coffee trees. In 1961, John Njiru managed to expand his plantation with an additional 500 trees. With the country’s independence in 1963, those limitations disappeared, and the Mbature family expanded the farm with an additional 20 acres dedicated to coffee cultivation. After the departure of the second generation, Martin and Hellen Mbature, their five children – Ann, Elizabeth, Peter, Mercy and Gladwell – took over Kamavindi Coffee. Today, their unity and collective effort are the driving force behind this family project into the future.
Kenyan coffee has been precisely roasted for the espresso method, striking a harmonious balance between sweetness, body and low acidity. Layers of black tea, vanilla and honey flavours are revealed in every cup, with a silky texture and complexity that shines both on its own and in milky drinks.
A story of heritage, resilience and flavour that is savoured in every sip!
Process - Washed
Immerse yourself in the coffee Classic Whased process, where each stage is executed with precision to ensure quality. The cherries are selected for their sugar content of more than 20° Brix. The wet grinding process leaves 25% mucilage, enriching the flavour profile of the coffee. After careful drying in the sun on parabolic beds for 18-20 days, the coffee reaches an optimum humidity of 10.5%. Subsequently, a final moisture stabilisation is carried out for 12 days before being stored in grain-pro bags.
