As soon as the first rays of sun appear and the temperature starts to rise, many coffee lovers switch our lattes for cold brew. And in today's post, we explain how to prepare it at home.
Cold brew is a delicious and refreshing way to enjoy coffee during the hot summer days.
This is a drink prepared by steeping ground coffee in cold water for several hours, which results in a smooth drink that is less bitter than hot coffee. The cold brew preparation process is easy, and here we show you how to do it:
1️⃣ Choose your coffee
Start by selecting your favorite coffee. You can choose any type of coffee you like, but beans roasted for cold coffee are generally recommended. A good option is our filter coffees, such as the Cauca Red Bourbon / 60 H Fermentation Washed Coffee, with notes of caramel, peach, and cocoa.
2️⃣ Grind the coffee beans or select the cold brew grind
Grind the coffee beans in a coffee grinder. The grind should be coarse, so it does not seep through the filter. Another option is to select the cold brew grind, and we will send you the grams you select already ground.
3️⃣ Mix the coffee beans and the water
Place the ground coffee in a jar and add cold water in a 1:10 ratio (one part coffee to ten parts water). Mix well to ensure that all the coffee grounds are completely submerged in the water.
4️⃣ Steep the coffee
Cover the jar with a lid and let the coffee steep for 12 to 24 hours in the fridge. The steeping time will depend on the intensity of the flavor you want in your cold brew.
5️⃣ Filter the coffee
After the coffee has steeped for the necessary time, strain the coffee and water mixture through a coffee filter. You can use a cloth strainer or a paper coffee filter to filter the liquid.
6️⃣ Serve and enjoy
After filtering the coffee, serve it over ice and enjoy it in all its freshness. If you wish to add a little sweetness, you can add sugar or vanilla syrup to taste.
